FROM A STUDENT NAIVE IDEA TO GLOBAL FAME

The story of the band’s creation began (just like in many famous books and films) in a student dormitory. In September 1996, such a place became a meeting point for several students of history, anthropology, archaeology, astronomy and mathematics faculties of University College London, who also became friends. Despite such a wide range of fields of study, those young people were united by music. Probably, every rookie musician dreams of rehearsals in the bedroom of a rented apartment and quiet summer evenings spent with friends and thoughts about the musical future. All this was present in the life of the students. The band was finally formed in 1998 when Will Champion joined Jonny Buckland, Chris Martin and Guy Berryman. Their first concert took place in the Laurel Tree pub.

The band changed its name several times and stopped at Coldplay. It refers to the British poet Philip Horky’s collection of poems Child Reflection. Cold Play. The real peak of the group’s creative activity happened after the boys passed the final exams in college. Since the summer of 1999, they have released a large number of tracks, organised many concerts, recorded new albums and signed contracts. The first misunderstanding, which involved Martin and Champion, occurred at the beginning of their career, however, it was solved quickly, and after that, the band established certain rules. For example, any member will be fired for using hard drugs or the band would break up if one of the members left it. The approved rules also included the distribution of income into four equal parts. Perhaps, it was the key that helped the band maintain such popularity and strong friendship for many years.

SONGS THAT GAVE THE BAND WORLDWIDE POPULARITY

Coldplay gained international recognition after the release of the second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, and the single Yellow. Coldplay has been recording new tracks for the entire year of 2000. In June of that year, the band started its first tour, which turned out to be more than successful. In 2000, they conquered Europe and then did the same in North America. In the same year, they managed to release their first full album called Parachutes. In 2002, they released their second album.

Although the band reached its peak of success at the beginning of the 2000s, it still tours in Europe as well as other countries of the world, takes an active part in charity events and presents their fans with unforgettable impressions and emotions.
